About
Westport Seabirds runs all-day pelagic birding trips out of Westport on the Washington coast, taking small groups roughly 30 nautical miles offshore to the submarine canyons at the edge of the continental shelf in Grays Harbor. Founded and operated for forty years by Phil and Chris Anderson, the company is transitioning in 2026 to new ownership under Todd and Ann Sawin, who will continue the long-running pelagic programme.
Trips run a published seasonal schedule and target the full Pacific seabird suite, from breeding-season storm-petrels and shearwaters to late-summer specialities like Buller's and Flesh-footed Shearwaters, South Polar Skua, and occasional Laysan and Short-tailed Albatross. The operation is widely considered the benchmark for Pacific Northwest pelagic birding.
