About
Walk Hong Kong has been organising guided walks and birding outings in Hong Kong since 2003. The day-to-day planning is run by Gabi Baumgartner, and the company operates as a small specialist outfit serving English- and German-speaking visitors looking for nature beyond the city skyline.
The birding programme is structured around three premier New Territories sites: the sub-tropical forest of Tai Po Kau, the Mai Po Marshes Reserve on the edge of Deep Bay, and the agricultural mosaic of Long Valley. Resident targets include colourful species such as Scarlet Minivet, Orange-bellied Leafbird, and Fork-tailed Sunbird, while autumn through spring (September to May) opens the shorebird season at Mai Po with chances for Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Nordmann's Greenshank, Asian Dowitcher, and Black-faced Spoonbill.
Tours are offered as half-day or full-day private experiences, with telescopes and reference material provided by the guide and a personalised checklist emailed after each outing. Pricing is on a per-group basis from HKD 1,600 to HKD 4,000 depending on party size.
