About

Tranquilo Bay is a family-run eco-adventure lodge on Isla Bastimentos in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, opened in 2005 by Jim, Jay and Renee on roughly 200 acres of rainforest bordering Bastimentos National Marine Park. The property is the principal birding lodge on Panama's western Caribbean coast and the standard base for visiting U.S. tour companies (Naturalist Journeys, Field Guides, WINGS) running Bocas del Toro extensions. The lodge's resident guides have logged more than 230 species on the property itself and over 635 from daily excursions to nearby habitats, including a 100-foot canopy observation tower, the Snyder Canal mangroves, Snowy Cotinga House on the mainland and the foothills of the Talamanca cordillera. In addition to birding, Tranquilo Bay packages snorkelling, kayaking and rainforest hiking, but its multi-night birding itineraries (4, 7 and 8 nights) are the core specialty product and the reason large North American operators sub-contract here.
