About

Sipi Falls Tours is an eastern-Uganda specialist guiding operation based in Sipi (Kapchorwa District) on the slopes of Mount Elgon. The company is community-rooted — founded by 'Sipi Sam' as a local-led initiative — and has built its reputation on the Mount Elgon birding circuit, which most national-scale Ugandan operators treat as a side trip rather than a core destination. The Mount Elgon and Sipi Falls area holds more than 450 recorded bird species, including the Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier) over the basalt cliffs, Jackson's Francolin, Hartlaub's Turaco, Tacazze Sunbird and a range of Afromontane specialities not found elsewhere in Uganda. The team also runs extensions into the Karamoja region — Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve for Karamoja Apalis and dry-country species, and Kidepo Valley for the northern savanna birds — which together with their partner network into Mabamba, Bwindi and Murchison gives clients a cross-country itinerary that uses Mount Elgon rather than Entebbe as the base. Guiding emphasises local Bagisu community involvement, conservation revenue, and slower hiking-paced birding.
