About
Sicklebill Safaris is a small, family-run birding tour operator based in Topaz at the southern end of the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. Founded by British-Australian ornithologist Phil Gregory, who has been running tours in the Australasian region for more than 25 years, the company specialises in expert-led birding, wildlife and photography itineraries across Australia, New Guinea and the wider Pacific.
Phil Gregory is one of Australia's foremost birders and the author of a 2017 Lynx Edicions handbook to the birds of New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago and Bougainville, as well as a 2019 photographic field guide to the birds of Far North Queensland (co-authored with fellow Sicklebill guide Jun Matsui) and a 2020 Helm monograph on Birds of Paradise and Bowerbirds. The team also operates evening spotlighting tours on private rainforest land for nocturnal specialities such as Lesser Sooty Owl and Northern Boobook, and trades under the consumer-facing brand Birder.Travel.
