About

Rockjumper Birding Tours was founded in 1998 and remains one of the largest dedicated birding companies in the world, running roughly 300 scheduled tours every year across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Europe and Antarctica. Its administrative team is split between Hilton in KwaZulu-Natal — purpose-built and run largely on renewable energy — and a head office in Mauritius, with additional staff in Ecuador, the UK and the US. South Africa is the company's home patch, and Rockjumper offers a deep catalogue of South African itineraries including a Mega tour, the Eastern Comprehensive, Birds, Wine & Big Game, and various pelagic and Eastern Cape extensions. Tour leaders are typically full-time Rockjumper staff backed by experienced local guides, and the company keeps an unusually low leader-to-guest ratio (around eight participants per departure). Rockjumper also operates sister brands — Rockjumper Wildlife Tours, Out of Bounds Tours and Tau Anthropological Tours — and a Tailor-Made division that now accounts for roughly a third of its bookings.
