About
Red Hill Birding is a Chicago-based birding and nature tour company founded in 2016 by Josh Engel, an ornithologist who previously worked at The Field Museum and spent nearly four years guiding full-time across Southern Africa, Madagascar, and Asia. The company runs both international expeditions and weekend trips around Illinois and the Midwest.
Its Bhutan program is notable for running an autumn rather than the more common spring departure, taking advantage of clear skies and chances at notoriously tricky species like White-bellied Heron, Black-necked Crane, and Wallcreeper. A small team of guides including Adam Sell, Steve Huggins, and Johnny Wilson leads departures worldwide alongside Engel.
The operator emphasizes a low guide-to-participant ratio and works across North and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Office contact is via the Chicago headquarters at 224.213.2280.
