About

Pronatura Veracruz is a Mexican non-profit conservation organization (asociación civil) based in the state of Veracruz, dedicated to protecting flora, fauna and priority ecosystems through programs focused on wetlands, shade-grown coffee landscapes, raptors and forests. Alongside its conservation work the organization runs a tour-operator arm offering birding, butterfly and cultural experiences. Its flagship birding programme is the Veracruz River of Raptors (Río de Rapaces), which the group helped pioneer at Cardel and Chichicaxtle. Pronatura guides take visitors to the observation platforms during the autumn migration window when millions of Broad-winged and Swainson's Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Mississippi Kites and other raptors funnel through the narrow coastal plain — among the largest hawk migration counts in the world.
