About
Paradise Birding is a Bend, Oregon–based birding tour company founded by Steve Shunk, marking 28 years of operation in 2026. While the home turf is the eastern slope of the Oregon Cascades — famous for hosting eleven breeding woodpecker species — the company runs international itineraries across Mexico, Sicily, Sardinia, Peru, and the French Caribbean.
The Guadeloupe programme works with local guide Anthony Levesque to target the island's endemic woodpecker and Lesser Antillean specialities across the rainforest of Basse-Terre and the dry-forest cays of Grande-Terre. Shunk is a licensed Oregon State Outfitter/Guide (#3252) and frequently partners with Naturalist Journeys on co-listed tours.
