About

Orango Parque Hotel runs a 10-day birding programme out of the Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau, working the UNESCO-recognised Orango and João Vieira-Poilão marine national parks alongside the Rio Mansôa estuary and Lagoas de Cufada wetlands. The archipelago is the second most important over-wintering site for Palaearctic mudflat birds and Laridae, with more than 500 species catalogued for the country. Trips combine birding with cultural visits to Bijagó villages and observation of mammals such as chimpanzees and hippos. Local guides familiar with both the islands and the migratory shorebird calendar lead the itineraries, and a portion of proceeds supports community projects.
