About
Nurlin Djuni is one of Indonesia's most respected birding guides, based in Palu in Central Sulawesi and founder of Malia Tour & Travel and its birding division, Malia Birding, established in 2010. A former English teacher from a Kaili village in Sulawesi, he has built a reputation among visiting birders for finding tough endemics across Sulawesi, Halmahera, West Papua and the wider Indonesian archipelago, and was hired by Dutch big-year record holder Arjan Dwarshuis during his global big year.
Malia Birding runs 7- to 14-day birding and wildlife photography trips across Sulawesi, the Moluccas, Papua, Java, Bali, Borneo, the Lesser Sundas and Sumatra, working with a team of local guides representing more than ten ethnic groups. The company name itself comes from the Sulawesi-endemic Malia (Malia grata). Nurlin is known for his deep local network, conservation commitment and easygoing personality, with strong language coverage across the team (Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic).
