About
Mamaland Safaris is an Entebbe-based Ugandan tour operator established in 2005 and led by Tony W. Byarugaba, a trained field ornithologist who has attended Nature Uganda bird counts and bird-identification courses in Sweden and Spain. The office sits on the lower ground floor of Imperial Mall on Lugard Avenue in Entebbe, a few minutes from the international airport and the Mabamba boat launches.
The company runs both general gorilla-and-wildlife safaris and a dedicated birding stream — typical birding itineraries combine the Shoebill at Mabamba with the Albertine Rift endemic circuit through Bwindi (African Green Broadbill, Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin), the Green-breasted Pitta in Kibale, and the Papyrus Gonolek and waterbird density of Murchison Falls. Northern extensions into Kidepo Valley pick up the dry-country specialities the southern circuit misses.
Mamaland is firmly in the local-Ugandan-operator category rather than the international franchise field, and trips lean toward tailor-made private builds.
