Hawaii Forest & Trail

Hawaii Forest & Trail is a long-established Big Island ecotourism company with more than three decades of guiding history on Hawaii Island. While their portfolio spans volcano hikes, waterfall tours, and stargazing on Mauna Kea, the company runs a dedicated Hakalau Forest Birdwatching Adventure in cooperation with the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge. The birding tour focuses on the surviving native forest birds of the upper slopes - Iiwi, Apapane, Palila, Akiapolaau, and Hawaii Elepaio among them - in a high-elevation Ohia and Koa forest normally closed to the public. The company runs a conservation programme, the Iiwi Fund, that channels a portion of trip revenue back into native bird habitat work.
