About

Hawaii Bird Guide LLC is the one-guide operation of Lance Tanino, founded in 2017 and based in Waimea on the west side of Hawaii Island. Lance grew up on Oahu, has been birding for more than three decades, and holds degrees in Zoology and Conservation Biology. He runs private and small-group natural-history outings focused on West Hawaii and Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, with pelagic seabird charters out of Kona and customized trips to Maui, Oahu, and Kauai. Full-day West Hawaii itineraries typically yield 25 to 40-plus species across forest, grassland, urban, wetland, and coastal habitats, including endemic honeycreepers like Apapane, Iiwi, Akiapolaau, and Hawaii Creeper. Lance also serves as the Hawaiian Islands Regional Editor for North American Birds, an eBird regional editor for the Hawaiian Islands, editor of the eighth edition of Hawaii Audubon Society's Hawaii's Birds, and a member of Western Field Ornithologists' Hawaii Bird Records Committee.
