About
Harrier Tours was founded in 2009 by Harriet Kemigisha, a former Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger-guide who left the public service to build a guiding company centred on conservation and on bringing women into Ugandan bird guiding. The company is based at Kibale Forest Lodge in Bigodi, Fort Portal, with day-to-day birding operations anchored in the western forest belt.
Itineraries cover the full Ugandan circuit — forest parks (Kibale for Green-breasted Pitta, Semuliki for the Congo-basin specialities, Mgahinga and Bwindi for Albertine Rift endemics), the montane parks (Rwenzori, Mount Elgon) and the savanna parks (Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo Valley, Lake Mburo). Kemigisha is a frequent ground operator for international birding outfits including Birding Ecotours USA, Talon Birding Tours USA, Africa Geographic Travel and the RSPB.
The company is unusual in the Ugandan market for its female-led training programme — Harrier Tours actively recruits and trains women bird guides and partners with rehabilitated former poachers around Kibale, channelling guiding revenue back into community conservation work.
