About
Eric Antonio Martinez is a Zapotec field biologist and federally licensed bird guide based in Teotitlan del Valle, the rug-weaving village in the Tlacolula arm of the Oaxaca Valley. He has been birding the state of Oaxaca for nearly two decades and is a university-trained ornithologist who also volunteered at the Long Point Bird Observatory in Ontario and travels to Cuba most years to band migrants.
Through his Birding Tours Oaxaca and as a contracted leader for Naturalist Journeys, he runs day trips and multi-day circuits that combine the dry Oaxaca Valley endemics around Yagul and Teotitlan with the cloud-forest specialties of the Sierra Norte at Cuajimoloyas and Benito Juarez. Trips emphasize the dozen-plus species endemic to southern Mexico that overlap his home range, and clients consistently note his English fluency, knowledge of local culture and plants, and steady driving on mountain roads.
