About

Eastern Ontario Birding is the field-guiding operation of Jon Ruddy, an Ottawa-based birder who has guided full-time since 2015. Trained under naturalist Michael Runtz at Carleton University and seasoned by summer fieldwork surveying birds in the Okanagan, southern Ontario, James Bay and Manitoba, Ruddy specialises in field identification of warblers, raptors, gulls and subspecies-level work. Tours focus on eastern Ontario's boreal forests, Ottawa River wetlands, Algonquin and the agricultural lowlands toward the St. Lawrence, with seasonal excursions into southern Quebec. Ruddy is a voting member of the Ontario Bird Records Committee and the Kingston Bird Records Committee, and a research associate at the Canadian Museum of Nature. He runs custom day trips and small-group set departures and maintains an active log of rare and noteworthy regional finds.
