About

Founded in 1999, Canopy Family operates three of Panama's best-known birding ecolodges — Canopy Tower in Soberanía National Park, Canopy Lodge in the cloud forest above El Valle de Antón, and Canopy Camp deep in the Darién. Each property is sited within a distinct habitat, allowing guests to combine lowland Caribbean rainforest, mid-elevation cloud forest, and Darién specialties on a single itinerary. Canopy Tower itself is a converted former US military radar station whose canopy-level rooms and rooftop deck make it one of the most photographed birding lodges in the Neotropics. Resident bilingual Panamanian guides lead daily field outings targeting flagship species including Harpy Eagle (most reliable in the Darién), Blue Cotinga, and an exceptional range of hummingbirds and antbirds. The operation is a major Panamanian conservation and ecotourism employer and is widely cited as one of the standard-bearers for Neotropical lodge-based birding.
