About
Bird Tanzania Safaris is the Tanzania-focused arm of Bird Uganda Safaris, the long-running East African birding outfit founded by Herbert Byaruhanga. Byaruhanga — often described in regional press as the 'face of East Africa birding' — set up the Uganda Bird Guide Club in the late 1990s and has since trained a generation of East African bird guides, with formal training stints in South Africa from 2001.
The Tanzania operation runs out of Arusha and covers the standard northern circuit (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti) plus Arusha National Park and the southern Selous (Nyerere) Game Reserve, frequently combined with Zanzibar. Because the company is integrated with Bird Uganda Safaris, multi-country East African itineraries crossing into Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya are a routine offering rather than a custom build.
The company emphasises research-based tours, women-birder programmes, and youth conservation engagement alongside its commercial trips, which distinguishes it from purely safari-driven Arusha competitors.
