About
Ancient Tracks is a Leh-based travel company founded in 2002 by Lobzang Tsultim Visuddha, originally focused on cultural and spiritual trips and now offering specialized wildlife, birding, snow-leopard, and trekking expeditions across Ladakh. Visuddha is a founder of the Wildlife Conservation and Birds Club of Ladakh (Birds Club of Ladakh), a co-author of the first Indian-authored book on Birds of Ladakh, and a long-time advocate for community-based birding-guide training in the region.
The company's birding circuit runs through the Indus belt around Leh (Spituk, Shey, Thiksey, Chushot) and out across the Changthang plateau to Tso Kar, Tso Moriri, Puga Valley, and Hanle, with extensions to Nubra and Pangong. Trips target high-altitude specialties including Black-necked Crane, Tibetan Sandgrouse, snowcocks, and large raptors, and are best run in the May to June and September to October windows.
