About

Alvaro's Adventures is a California-based birding tour company founded and led by Chilean-born ornithologist and field guide author Alvaro Jaramillo. The outfit is best known for its long-running northern and central California pelagic trips out of Half Moon Bay and Monterey, widely regarded as among the finest seabirding day trips anywhere in the world. Beyond the home pelagics, the company runs an international programme that includes Chile and Argentina ('Birds and Wine'), Cuba (with Cuban field-guide author Arturo Kirkconnell), Japan, Bhutan, Thailand, northern India, Bolivia, Colombia, the Galapagos, Easter Island, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Spain, South Africa, Hawaii, and Antarctic Peninsula voyages with South Georgia and the Falklands. Tours are typically co-led with respected regional specialists. The company also runs an education arm, 'Birding Your Best Life', offering online workshops and a membership community. Jaramillo himself is a Wilson/Brewster medal-winning ornithologist, a Birds of Chile field-guide author, and one of the most recognisable voices in North American seabirding.
