About
Albatross Birding & Nature Tours is a Santiago-based birding company founded in 2009 and registered with Chile's Servicio Nacional de Turismo. The operator runs scheduled and custom departures across the entire country, from the Altiplano around Putre and the Atacama through Mediterranean central Chile to Chiloé, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, plus regular pelagic charters into the Humboldt Current out of Valparaíso targeting albatrosses and petrels.
Directed by Fernando Díaz, the team is unusually deep for a Chilean specialist, with around fifteen guides including long-time Magallanes naturalist Ricardo Matus, ornithologists Heraldo Norambuena and Fernando Medrano, and Easter Island specialist Sebastián Yancovic Pakarati. The company also offers wildlife photography programs and conservation-linked tours focused on Chilean endemics such as the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover and Moustached Turca.
