About
Albatross Birding and Nature Tours is a Santiago-based birding and wildlife operator founded in 2009 by Fernando 'Fena' Diaz, a Chilean field ornithologist registered with the country's National Tourism Service (SERNATUR). The company runs birding tours the length of Chile, from the Atacama in the north to Tierra del Fuego in the south, with regular extensions to the Falkland Islands and pelagic departures off the central coast.
Fernando himself is one of the country's most experienced guides, an eBird Chile reviewer and co-investigator of a long-term Diademed Sandpiper-Plover study in the El Yeso valley; he has helped add four species to Chile's national list. Targets on the company's circuit include high-Andean specialties such as Greater Yellow-Finch, Creamy-rumped Miner, Crag Chilia and Moustached Turca, alongside wetland rarities like Black-headed Duck and Patagonian seabirds. The team currently includes around 17 field guides and 3 office staff and also runs trips in Argentina and Brazil.
