Adventure In Hawaii is a Big Island-based adventure-tour operator that runs a specialised Hakalau Birdwatching Adventure into the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, a restricted-access reserve on the upper slopes of Mauna Kea that protects some of Hawaii's most endangered native forest birds. Their guided 4WD trip is led by an interpretive guide trained in tracking the refuge's endemics, with a full day in the field looking for honeycreepers and other native species alongside rare plants and invertebrates.
